In an interesting revivification of Sydney-based soul singer Justine’s music, Left Ear Records have decided to make public two tunes from her unreleased 1979 album. This one, ‘Wordless Songs’, is an exciting way to show that even music that's been laying dormant for 40 years is able to sound fresh. The funky guitar riff and chords combine with a tight rhythm section to provide the perfect backing for Justine’s powerful voice. A catchy chorus and some complex harmony shows her grasp of songwriting, while creating the realisation that while we aren’t going to get any new music from Justine, this single is the closest we’ll get to uncovering the gem of an album this could have been. -Dan Peeke
